It's Me, Erin
After moving to Great Falls with my family from Spokane, I began working with the elderly community in 2006 at Cambridge Place Retirement Community. I was doing what I wanted to do since I was a little girl; working as a waitress. My parents still tell me stories about how I'd walk around the house with a little tray and scribble orders in a notebook. This job was wonderful. I made fantastic friends with my coworkers, supervisors and the management team; and remain friends with them today. Along with serving meals to the residents in the community, I worked a couple days a week in the Activity department. I'd show videos and lead discussions, lead their exercise program, decorate the community, think up crafts and several other fun activities. I had the pleasure of being able to work with one of my younger sisters while employed at Cambridge Place and now, my older sister has found her place there. This community really opened my eyes about Retirement living. Since I'd never really educated myself, this was a perfect start and example of what Retirement Communities should be like.
In 2008 I applied for and was offered a position at Eagles Manor Retirement Community. I enjoyed working as the Administrative Assistant at the front desk for a little over a year. This was another community that was so close knit I felt right at home. From helping in the dining room and answering phones to giving tours and assisting the sales department, I was overwhelmed with the balance and teamwork. The experience I gained in this position was phenomenal. I needed to learn more; I needed new experiences. I applied for and was offered the position of Assistant Administrator in May of 2009. I was now overseeing the operation and staff of the Eagles Manor front desk. I was ready for more and loved it.
Before long, another opportunity had presented itself to me, what luck! I began another journey as the Community Sales Manager for both Eagles Manor and Golden Eagle Plaza in February of 2010. (Another office to organize, I thought to myself)... Unbeknownst to most, I really enjoy organizing. Organizing everything. At this point in my life, I felt as I was meant for this job. The satisfaction of finding the perfect new home for someone was a feeling I cannot explain. Being the first contact for inquires, knowing them for years, then the surprise on their faces (when they're ready to make a move) and you remember their name or their favorite snack; priceless.
Like all good things, they come to an end...or, a new beginning! In October 2010, a property management company was appointed to Eagles Manor and Golden Eagle Plaza as a result of bankruptcy within the corporation who owned and managed us. I was transferred back to the front desk at Eagles Manor and pressed on until January 2012. At this time, I made yet another move; I resumed my previous position as the Assistant Administrator.
Looking back on everything today, I wouldn't change any of it. Experiences make you the person you are. Although, at times, things were hard and unknown, I knew we needed to press on. Eagles Manor and Golden Eagle Plaza are now privately owned by a couple from Polson, MT. The Administrator, Judy, and I work together to do what is best for the residents here and continue to do so on a daily basis. Several of my coworkers have been at Eagles Manor or Golden Eagle plaza for over 10 years; the starting backbone of our team. I have earned my Montana Property Manager's License and am a student once again; working to earn a business degree. I love it here. I've watched my 2 year old daughter grow to where she is now; a maturing 12 year old. Where has the time gone?
I've felt the need to document our adventures at Eagles Manor & Golden Eagle Plaza. So, I created this blog to showcase the experiences of beloved staff members, residents and how our lives work around each other.
